After months of hard work by all major stakeholders, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) has approved the formation of one large district-wide Greater Overberg Fire Protection Association (FPA).
This means that all paid up members of the former Babylonstoring, Overberg TWK, Sondagskloof, Swellendam and TW-Groenland FPAs now form part of the Bredasdorp Vlakte FPA. The name change to Greater Overberg FPA will come in effect after completing the next set of processes as determined by DAFF. For the sake of branding and continuity, the FPA is already trading under the name Greater Overberg FPA.
The Greater Overberg Executive Working Group, on which the chairpersons from all of the former FPA’s are represented, has worked hard to come up with a new constitution and membership fees structure, which was approved at the Bredasdorp Vlakte AGM.
The next set of tasks for the Greater Overberg team will be to compile an integrated fire management plan along with the new FPA rules and guidelines, deliver on services to members, and to increase membership and the FPA’s existing capacity. Expert advice to members about complying with the National Veld and Forest Fire Act and the organisation of basic wildfire suppression training for members is to name but a few of the services to which members can look forward.
A map with the new boundaries, the constitutions and membership fees structure and much more can be found on www.overbergfpa.co.za, or contact the head office on 028 425 1690.
